BALTIMORE - Behind a 24-point performance from Colleen Marshall, the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team got past the United States Naval Academy, 51-38, Wednesday night in Reitz Arena.
Diana Logan chipped in eight points for the Greyhounds (6-10, 3-2 Patriot League), while Jeneh Perry led the team with six rebounds.
Despite being down by one, 14-13, at the close of the first quarter, Loyola held Navy (8-8, 2-3) to only four points in the second frame, and secured the lead from that point on.
Defensively, the Greyhounds kept the Mids off the scoreboard for the first two-plus minutes of the third and fourth quarters, as they worked to extend their advantage to as many as 15 points, 51-36, with 55 seconds remaining to earn the double-digit victory.
Loyola forced Navy into committing 17 turnovers and held the Mids to 38 points, marking the first time since the 2012-13 season that the Greyhounds have kept an opponent under 40 points.
Loyola will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Boston University at 2 p.m.
