Women's Hoops Stays Perfect In MAAC With Win Over Canisius

Baltimore, Md. - With three players in double digit points, the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team defeated Canisius, 57-49, today at Reitz Arena. The Greyhounds moved to 3-0 in the conference for the first time under Head Coach Joe Logan.

Graduate student Erica DiClemente and junior Miriam McKenzie led the way for the Greyhounds with 16 points. Sophomore Katie Sheahin had 14 points and five assists and sophomore Alyssa Sutherland and McKenzie led on boards with six.

In the first half, the game was tied at seven before the Greyhounds went on a 10-0 run started by a Sheahin two pointer. The biggest lead of the half was 13 points.The Golden Griffins started to come back and went on a 10-2 run to end the half 27-24.

Coming out of half, the Greyhounds took a five point lead off a Meredith Tolley jumper. Canisius had an answer and tied the game at 29 and take the lead with a Jamie Ruttle lay-in.

A McKenzie three pointer took the lead and started a 10-0 run. The Greyhounds were up by seven with an Alyssa Sutherland lay-in but the Golden Griffins answer and went on a 7-2 run to come within two with 7:35 left in the second half.

The Greyhounds scored off a lay-in by Katie Sheahin to keep the lead and went on a 6-2 run to take an eight point lead with 3:35 left in the game.

Canisius came within four with 39 seconds left but the Greyhounds ended the game off of free throws.

The Golden Griffins were led by Ashley Durham who had 20 points and Jamie Ruttle had 10.

The Greyhounds will be back in action on Monday as they host Marist for Field Trip Day. Tip-off set for 11:30 a.m.
