LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - Loyola fell behind 29-27 in the first half and could not make up the difference, falling 73-55 to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent Rider Tuesday evening. The Greyhounds fall to 5-7 on the season and 1-2 in MAAC play while the Broncs improved to 3-9 and 1-2 in the conference.
Loyola was up the entire first half before Rider took a 26-25 lead with 1:57 left in the first half. The two teams exchanged baskets and the lead before Rider ended the half with a 29-27 advantage.
Rider continued to lead throughout the second half with the Greyhounds close on their heels at 50-47 with 11:09 remaining before the Broncs went on a 6-0 run in a six minute scoring drought for Loyola from the basket at 11:09 to one at the five minute mark.
The Greyhounds were plagued with foul trouble throughout the second half and allowed as much as an 18 point lead for Rider at the close of the game.
Loyola shot just 33.3 percent to Rider's 46 and committed a total of 25 fouls and 27 turnovers to Rider's 17 and 23, respcetively.
The Greyhounds were led by Katie Scherle with 16 points and seven rebounds as well as two steals and a block. She was followed by Jackie Valderas with 10 points while Lauren Troupe rounded out the top three with nine.
Becky Hower led the game with 20 points for the Broncs while Leanne Moore completed a double-double with 11 points and 15 boards. Also in double digits for Rider was Becky Hower with 10.
The Greyhounds will travel to MAAC opponent Siena on Sunday, Jan. 11 for their fourth conference match-up of the season.
