Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's and women's tennis teams have not seen action on the courts since the fall season ended in October. Both teams are looking to the spring with high expectations, especially the women's team who was picked to finish third in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings.
The Greyhounds will start the spring campaign this February with two matches at the Greenspring Racquet Club in Lutherville, Md. Loyola will face Saint Francis (Pa.) on Friday, February 13 at 6 p.m. and then Coppin State on Saturday, February 21 at 6 p.m.
Loyola then plays seven matches in seven days starting with the first home match on Wednesday, March 11 against Morgan State at 2 p.m. The Greyhounds will then make a trip north to play Delaware State on Friday, March 13 at 3 p.m. before returning home to host two Saturday matches against Maryland Eastern Shore at 9 a.m. and St. Francis (N.Y.) at 12 p.m. The teams continue play at Mount St. Mary's on Sunday, March 15 to start 12 noon.
The schedule then divides keeping the women's team home on Tuesday, March 17 to host George Mason at 3 p.m. The men's team will travel to Catholic University to play on Wednesday, March 18 at 3:15 p.m. before returning to host the Patriot men on Thursday at 3 p.m.
The teams reunite for a home match versus La Salle on Saturday, March 21 at 1 p.m. and then travel to Niagara for the first conference match of the spring season. That match is scheduled for Sunday, March 22 at 11 a.m.
The Greyhounds then host four conference opponents starting with a mid-week match against Rider on Wednesday, March 25 set for 3 p.m. The women's team then faces Manhattan on Thursday, March 26 before both teams play a Saturday contest against Fairfield on March 28 at 10 a.m. and finally a Sunday match with St. Peter's on March 29 at 10 a.m.
Loyola visits two conference foes the following weekend starting with Siena on Saturday, April 4 at 10 a.m. and then Marist on Sunday, April 5 at 10 a.m.
The regular season will end for the men's team with the match against Coppin State on Tuesday, April 7 at 3 p.m. while the women finish things up a week later at Towson on April 14 at 3:15 p.m.
The 2009 MAAC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships will take place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York from April 17-19.
