Tennis Concludes Fall Action At Hampton Roads Collegiate

Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's and women's tennis teams wrapped up their fall slate at the Hampton Roads Collegiate on Sunday afternoon. Both the men and women saw action with varying success in the championship and consolation brackets.

In the Flight D Championship women's bracket, sophomore Lauren Cassle earned a 6-4, 5-7, 1-0(11) win to advance to the flight semifinals, where she fell 7-6, 6-1. Other championship action for the Greyhounds included sophomore Caitlyn Day, who fell in the Flight B quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-1, after a win in the second round.

In the consolation brackets, sophomore Stephanie Dunn and freshmen Joy Johnson and Lane Maloney each earned victories for the Greyhounds. Dunn won 8-3 in the Consolation C quarterfinals and 8-5 in the semifinals before falling to Carlie Smith in the flight's consolation championship.

Johnson won 8-2 in the quarters before an 8-4 loss in the semifinals, while Maloney won 8-3 to advance to the quarterfinals of Flight D. She fell 8-6 in the quarters. Sophomore Kerri Swan (Consolation B) also fell in Sunday matches.

On the men's side, senior Scott Gannon and senior Ben Epstein fell in Consolation B action (Gannon won a second-round match before falling the quarterfinals), while freshmen Chris Langley and Dan D'Agostino fell in Flight D Consolation play. Sophomore Tim Koch won his Consolation C opening round match and dropped an 8-3 decision in the quarterfinals.

Both the men and women begin spring competition on March 12 when they face local foe Morgan State on the Bears' campus in West Baltimore.
