EMMITSBURG, Md. - Men's tennis was just one flight shy of sweeping through the Mount Saint Mary's Invitational this weekend, in Emmitsburg, Md. Loyola couldn't hang on in just one singles flight, but managed a strong showing in all five other flights.
In Flight A Singles, Kenyan Sanai defeated the Mount's Patrick Plastow 6-1, 6-4, breezing through to win the flight, while Pierce Norton was the runner-up in the consolation round, falling to Mount Saint Mary's Mike Salomon 3-6, 4-6.
In Flight C, it was Bobby Gorczakowsi taking the crown by defeating Millersville's Erik Wright 6-2, 6-3. Phil Vavelidis fell in the final round of the consolation match to the Mount's Taylor Place 6-2, 6-1. Tim Koch fell early in the flight after Wright rallied to take a super tiebreaker. Koch fell 6-2 in the first set before rallying to take the second 6-2, but dropped the super tiebreaker 10-6.
Flight A Doubles was the one flight that gave the Greyhounds trouble. Sanai and Norton finished in fourth, winning their first set against Gettysburg's Terry Keegan and Sebastian Rodriguez. The two were then out-slugged by Gettysburg 8-4 for third place in the flight.
