Men's Tennis Tops The Mount; Women Fall In Regular Season Finale

Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's and women's tennis teams split their final non-conference match of the season on Wednesday afternoon. The men earned a 5-2 victory over Mount St. Mary's, while the women dropped a 6-1 decision to close the regular season.

In men's action, the Greyhounds won the doubles point with junior co-captains Scott Gannon and Ben Epstein claiming an 8-6 victory at No.1, and freshman Matt McDaniel and junior Chad Morrow taking an 8-1 victory at No. 3.

The `Hounds then rolled in singles play with straight set victories at Nos. 1, 4, 5 and 6. Gannon earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1, while junior Rob Palliser won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4. Freshman Tim Koch claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5 as freshman Chris Langley closed the day with an impressive 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6.

In women's action, junior co-captain Meaghan McKenna earned Loyola's point with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) victory at No. 5 singles. The Greyhounds extended The Mount to three sets at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, but could not claim another point. Freshman Caitlyn Day fell at No. 1 singles, while freshman Kerri Swan dropped a 0-6, 6-2, 6-3 match at No. 2.

The men close the regular season with a 9-8 overall record, while the women close the year at 11-6. Both teams will compete at the MAAC Championships this weekend in Flushing, N.Y. The women play Manhattan at 9 a.m.; the men take on Marist at 3:30 p.m.
