Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's and women's tennis teams earned 7-0 victories over Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday afternoon at the Butler Courts. With the wins, the women improve to 7-5 on the season while the men move to 7-8 overall.
Amy Nitch and Jessica Liberatore got the women off to a good start with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles. The tandem of senior Stefanie Clay and sophomore Mallory Tarca won an 8-1 set at No. 2 while Meaghan McKenna and Courtney Vanslooten completed the sweep with an 8-1 win at No. 3.
In singles' competition, the women took one through six in straight sets. Nitch claimed victory at No. 1 while Liberatore, McKenna, Clay, Tarca and Laura Cuti took the No. 2 through No. 6 singles' sets respectively.
The men, playing their final non-conference match of the season, picked up the doubles' point with Ben Epstein and Scott Gannon winning 8-2 at No. 1. The point was clinched at No. 2 when Sean Wall and Chad Morrow won 8-3.
Like the women, the men won their singles matches in straight sets. Paced by Gannon's 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1; Wall, Epstein, Morrow, freshman Sean Kraft and sophomore Rob McAward won No. 2 through No. 6 for the Greyhounds.
Loyola will have a full weekend of MAAC tennis action beginning this Friday when it takes on Manhattan at the U.S. Open in Flushing, N.Y. The Greyhounds also face Fairfield on Saturday and St. Peter's on Sunday.
