Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's and women's tennis teams earned a non-conference sweep over St. Francis on Sunday afternoon in Baltimore, Md. The women rolled to a 7-0 victory to improve their overall record to 6-2 this season, while the men won 4-3 to up their record to 6-3 on the year.
In women's action, freshmen Caitlyn Day and Stephanie Dunn combined for an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles while freshmen Kerri Swam and Lauren Cassle earned an 8-1 win at No. 2 to clinch the point for Loyola. Junior co-captains Meaghan McKenna and Mallory Tarca also won 8-0 at No. 3.
The ladies went on to sweep the singles' action in straight sets with Day winning at No. 1, Swan capturing the No. 2 match, Dunn winning at No. 3, Cassle winning at No. 4, McKenna taking No. 5 and Tarca closing out the scoring with a victory at No. 6.
The men dropped the doubles point despite an 8-3 win from Rob Palliser and Tim Koch at No. 2 doubles. A tough three-set loss at No. 1 for Scott Gannon had the `Hounds trailing 2-0, but straight set wins at Nos. 2 through 5 sealed the victory for Loyola.
Ben Epstein win 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, freshman Matt McDaniel won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3, while both Palliser and Koch added straight set wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles respectively. Freshman Peter Edgar almost gave Loyola a fifth point, but fell 7-6, 4-6, 10-4 at No. 6.
The women return to action at LaSalle this Friday while the men are idle until Saturday's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match with Siena.
