Tennis Shuts Out Wagner

Staten Island, N.Y. - The Loyola men's and women's tennis teams shut out Wagner at the College of Staten Island on Saturday afternoon, winning 7-0 on each side. With the wins, the women improve to 6-2 while the men increase their season mark to 6-5 overall.

In women's action, Amy Nitch and Jessica Liberatore won their No. 1 doubles' match by a score of 8-3 while the Greyhounds rolled to 8-0 victories in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles' action. Stefanie Clay and Mallory Tarca took the No. 2 match while Meaghan McKenna and Laura Cuti claimed victory at No. 3.

Nitch went on to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles while Liberatore defeated Maire Phillpots 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles' match. McKenna had a straight set victory at No.3 (6-0, 6-1) while Clay (No. 4), Tarca (No. 5) and Cuti (No. 6) won their respective singles' matches.

On the men's side, Scott Gannon won a grueling No. 1 singles match, defeating Steve Johnson 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 as freshman Sean Wall cruised to a straight set victory at No. 2 singles. Ben Epstein won his No. 3 singles match, 6-1, 6-1 as Chad Morrow (No. 4) and Sean Kraft (No. 5) each won their singles' matches in straight sets.

The doubles' point was won with Gannon and Epstein taking the No. 1 match, 8-3, as Wall and Morrow won 8-4 in the No. 2 match.

The Loyola men continue their road swing at Monmouth on Sunday. The women are back in action this Thursday when they host Hofstra.
