Philadelphia, Pa. - Loyola's men's and women's teams each improved their spring records with a sweep of LaSalle on Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia, Pa. The men topped the Explorers 5-2 while the women earned a 7-0 win.
Sophomore Trevor McDonough was one of five Loyola men to earn straight set victories with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. Freshman Scott Gannon won in No. 4 singles (6-4, 6-1) while John Curran (7-5, 6-4) and Ben Epstein (6-2, 6-1) picked up victories in No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively.
The Greyhound men also won the doubles point with Curran and Gannon taking No. 2 doubles 8-5 and senior Dan Schiemel teaming up with Epstein for an 8-3 point-clinching victory in No. 3 doubles.
On the women's side, junior Amy Nitch took home the No. 1 singles win with a 7-5, 6-4 straight set victory. Jessica Liberatore won No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-3 and Meagan McKenna earned a three-set victory in No. 3 singles. Sophomore Christi Lazar (6-2, 6-1) senior Claire Najour (6-0, 6-3) and junior Stefanie Clay (6-0, 6-0) all won their matches in straight sets.
The doubles point was won with Nitch and Liberatore teaming up for an 8-0 win at No. 1 and Lazar and Clay combining for an 8-1 victory at No. 2.
The women are now 2-2 this season while the men improve their overall record to 4-2. Weather permitting, both teams return to action on Sunday with the women traveling to Bucknell and the men playing at Delaware State.
