Hempstead, N.Y. - The Loyola tennis teams split their matches with Hofstra on Sunday as the women's team defeated the Pride with a 6-1 decision, while the men's team fell, 7-0. The women advanced their overall record to 7-1, while the Loyola men dropped to 6-3 on the year.
On the women's side, Loyola swept the doubles matches, while also defeating the Pride in five of six singles matches. The Greyhounds No. 1 doubles team of Carolyn Pilkington and Kaitlin Russo dropped the Pride's top duo 8-4 and the No. 2 team of Amy Nitch and Jessica Liberatore won their match 8-1. Loyola breezed past Hofstra, as the Greyhounds won each of the No.2 through No. 5 singles matches in straight sets.
The Pride defeated Loyola in the men's contest by sweeping the Greyhounds in singles play. Loyola's lone victory in the contest came in the third doubles match as Adam Wessinger and Bill Horne registered an 8-6 win.
Both Greyhound tennis team's return to action this week. The men's will team host Maryland at home this Tuesday, March 16th at 3 p.m.. Loyola's women will travel to Georgetown to take on the Hoyas this Wednesday, March 17th at 3:30 p.m.
