Tennis Opens Spring Campaign With Sweep Of UMES

Easton, Md. - The Loyola men's and women's tennis teams opened the spring portion of their schedule with 7-0 wins against Maryland Eastern Shore in Easton, Md. Both teams claimed straight set victories in singles competition and improve to 2-1 in 2006-07.

On the men's side, Loyola claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Junior Chad Morrow and freshman Matt McDaniel teamed up for the win at No. 2, while freshmen Tim Koch and Peter Edgar clinched the point at No. 3.

In singles action, junior Scott Gannon won at No. 1 as junior Ben Epstein took No. 2. McDaniel, Koch, Edgar and Morrow swept No. 3 through No. 6 singles respectively.

The Loyola women took No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take the match's first point. Freshman tandem Caitlyn Day and Stephanie Dunn won at No. 1 while two more freshmen in Kerri Swan and Lauren Cassle captured No. 2.

Just like the men, the women swept through the singles competition in straight sets. Day won at No. 1 as Swan, Dunn and Cassle were victorious in Nos. 2 through 4. Junior Mallory Tarca won at No. 5, while freshman Suzanne Lee capped the day with a victory at No. 6.

The Greyhounds open the MAAC portion of their schedule next Sunday at Niagara.
