Baltimore, Md. - Junior Gabriel Ortega has been named an NSCAA/adidas second-team regional All-America soccer player. Ortega, a three-time All-MAAC selection at defense, helped the Greyhounds hold opponents to just over one goal per game this season.
Ortega has started all but one game since his arrival to Evergreen and has become a staple in the Loyola defense. This season, he also registered his first career point, garnering an assist in Loyola's season-opening victory over Princeton.
Loyola's first defensive regional All-America in three years, Ortega was named a first-team All-MAAC defender for the second straight year after helping the Greyhounds to one or fewer goals in 13 of the Greyhounds' 18 regular season games.
