Nov. 10, 2008

Baltimore, Md. - After scoring two goals in No. 6 Loyola's 5-nil victory at Rider, sophomore midfielder Wade McHugh was honored as MAAC Rookie of the Week on Monday.

McHugh, a native of Baldwin, Md. (McDonogh), scored the eventual game-winner in Saturday's blanking of the Broncos. The victory secured Loyola its first perfect regular-season since 1986, and extended the team's unbeaten streak to a national-high 26 matches. For the second straight season, the Greyhounds also claimed the MAAC regular-season title.

He got the scoring started in the ninth minute, converting a cross from forward Jamie Darvill to give Loyola a one-goal lead.

The Greyhounds (17-0-1,9-0MAAC) would roll from there, denting the scoreboard four more times in the half to match their season-high of five goals. His goal at the 14:47 mark put Loyola up, 3-nil. He received a ball on the right side of the box, beat his defender with a cutback to the middle of the box and sent the ball into the upper-90 of the left netting.

For the season, McHugh has started 16 matches and scored two goals and added six assists. His 10 points are tied with sophomore Daniel Ankrah for fourth on the team. Earlier in the season he distributed a career-high three assists in a 5-nil win over Canisius.

Loyola has now had a conference Player of the Week for six consecutive weeks.
