EDISON, N.J. - Loyola junior goalkeeper Kyle Wittman was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week today after recording 200 minutes of scoreless soccer last weekend.
Wittman recorded a pair of shutouts in the Greyhounds' 2-0 win over No. 22 Iona and their 0-0 tie versus Fairfield.
Entering last weekend, the Gaels and Stags were ranked first and second, respectively, in the MAAC for goals per game.
Wittman made four saves on Friday against Iona and then stopped the only shot on goal Sunday by Fairfield. He also directed the Greyhounds' defense that held the Stags without a shot for the final 38 minutes of Sunday's contest.
The award is the second of the season - he also earned the honor on September 21 - for Wittman. He now has seven shutouts this season, and he leads the MAAC with a 0.54 goals against average in conference action.
Wittman and the Greyhounds return to action on Friday, November 6, when they travel to Jersey City, N.J., for a 2 p.m. match at Saint Peter's.
