Baltimore, Md. - Junior Vinnie Piscopo was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals in two conference road victories for the Greyhounds last weekend. Piscopo, who leads the team with six goals this year, helped Loyola stay perfect in the MAAC with wins at Niagara and Canisius.
On Friday at Niagara, Piscopo broke a 1-1 tie with his game-winning goal in the 62nd minute of competition. The Greyhounds won 2-1 and clinched a spot in the conference tournament. Two days later in Buffalo, Piscopo scored in the 79th minute to force overtime with Canisius. The Greyhounds, off a Chase Franklin header at 91:28, won the game 3-2 and improved to 9-5-1 on the year.
Piscopo, who led Loyola in scoring as a freshman in 2002 (seven goals, six assists), now has 15 career goals and nine career assists with his 13 points this season.
The Greyhounds, who have five goal scorers with three or more goals this season, can clinch a sixth straight regular season MAAC title this weekend when they host Marist and Siena. The Red Foxes are 6-1 in the conference while the Saints are 2-3-2. Loyola is atop the standings with a 7-0-0 MAAC record.
