Oct. 30, 2003

BALTIMORE, MD - The Loyola men's soccer team closes out the regular season with Canisius and Niagara at home this weekend. The Greyhounds bring a 4-2-1 conference record into Friday's contest versus Canisius and will be playing for seeding in next week's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament.

Loyola is 7-6-3 this season and undefeated at Curley Field. It's senior class, which will be playing its final home game on Saturday versus Niagara, has never lost to either Canisius or Niagara.

Friday's match will be against a Canisius squad that is 2-0-1 in its last three MAAC games. The Golden Griffs are 4-9-3 overall and 3-3-1 in the conference. Last year, the 'Hounds won 2-1 at Canisius.

On Saturday, seniors John Alecci, Steven Coleman and Jay Joyce will play their final home game with the Greyhounds. They face the 3-10-2 Purple Eagles of Niagara, who are 3-3-1 in the MAAC. Loyola's seniors have outscored Niagara 13-0 in the last three seasons.

This year, Coleman and Joyce lead the team in assists with four apiece. Freshman Omar Alfonso leads the squad in scoring with 11 goals and 25 points. Loyola is currently third in the MAAC standings with 13 points. The 'Hounds are one game back of Siena and would overtake first-place Fairfield with two wins this weekend.
