Baltimore, Md. - Loyola's men's soccer team returns home this weekend for a pair of conference matches. On Friday, the Greyhounds host Iona at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field beginning at 3 p.m., while on Sunday, the `Hounds play Fairfield at Alumnae Field at noon. Sunday's match will also be shown live on Comcast's CN8.
The Greyhounds will be looking to get back to .500 with a pair of matches that should be highly contested. Iona is 1-1-1 in the MAAC this season and is coming off a 2-2 tie with Saint Peter's. The Gaels, who opened their conference slate with a 2-1 loss at Fairfield, also have a win against Manhattan, but are 0-5 on the road.
Loyola, which has won its last nine games with Iona, has a commanding 16-1 series edge, but needed overtime to beat the Gaels in New Rochelle a year ago. Rade Kokovic, who scored the game-winner last year, already has a game-winner this season.
On Sunday, Fairfield will be looking to get even after last year's 4-0 loss to Loyola. The Stags are 6-3-3 this season and 2-0-1 in the MAAC. With wins over North Carolina State and Fairleigh Dickinson, Fairfield comes in with confidence against the current conference leader.
The Greyhounds, with three MAAC wins, have nine points and lead the conference standings. Senior Vinnie Piscopo enters the weekend as the top scorer with three goals and eight points while senior Mark Donnelly and junior captain Danny Wheelan each have two goals this season.
Sunday's game will be Loyola's third television game this year. The Greyhounds opened the season with a win over Princeton on Patriot8 and dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 18 Penn on CN8.
