Bannister Named To College Soccer News Team Of The Week

Oct. 19, 2009

Loyola junior forward Phil Bannister was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week today following the Greyhounds victories over Niagara and Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action.

Bannister recorded three assists on Friday afternoon in the Greyhounds' 4-0 win over Niagara, and he added another helper on Jamie Darvill's game-winning goal in the 74th minute Sunday versus Canisius.

Bannister leads the conference with seven assists. Based on his four assists over the weekend, the native of Wallsend, England, is likely to be atop all NCAA Division I players in assists per game when this week's stats are published. Bannister was injured earlier this season and missed four matches, but his seven assists in nine contests are good for 0.78 assists per game.

The Greyhounds (6-6-1 overall, 3-0-0 MAAC) hit the road for a pair of matches this weekend when they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., for a 7 p.m. match at Marist on Friday, October 23. They then take on Siena in Albany, N.Y., on Sunday, October 25, at 11 a.m.
