Baltimore, Md. - Senior Kevin Nash and freshman Frank Spanos were each named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Players of the Week after guiding Loyola to a pair of impressive victories over the weekend. Nash took home Offensive Player of the Week honors while Spanos was named Rookie of the Week for the first-place `Hounds.
Loyola, which has climbed to the top of the MAAC standings with a perfect 5-0-0 conference record, is unbeaten in its last six contests and is now 7-4-1 overall. Over the weekend, Nash scored four goals and Spanos added two as the Greyhounds earned a 3-1 win over Saint Peter's and a 4-1 win over Manhattan.
Against Saint Peter's, Nash scored two goals, but it was Spanos who knocked home the game-winner. Nash would get the game-winner on Sunday after Spanos scored first, Nash followed with Loyola's next two goals, giving him back-to-back multiple-goal games for the first time in his career.
Spanos, meanwhile, already has two game-winning goals and has scored in each of Loyola's last three games. The freshman has three total goals on the year and is tied for the conference lead in game-winning tallies.
"Frank Spanos is reaping the rewards of his work ethic and energy," says Mettrick. "He's having a very good season so far and we hope it continues."
The Greyhounds not only lead the conference with their 5-0 record, but also lead the MAAC in goals (26), assists (20) and points (72). They take a short break from conference play this week and travel to American for a Wednesday afternoon match.
Loyola is the five-time defending regular season MAAC champion and is the preseason favorite to win the MAAC this year. The Greyhounds have four regular-season conference games remaining on the schedule.
