Baltimore, Md. - Senior goalkeeper Justin Chelland and freshman forward Jamie Darvill have been named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week by the conference office today. Chelland and Darvill were instrumental in Loyola's home sweep of Siena and Marist last weekend and today were recognized for their efforts.
Chelland played all 180 minutes in goal this past weekend, allowing zero points while making eight saves. The senior keeper made six saves in a 1-nil victory over Marist and two saves in a 3-0 win over Siena. Chelland has four shutouts this season - all coming in his last six starts. His goals-against average is now 1.47 and his save percentage is .783.
Darvill, meanwhile, picked up four points over the weekend, scoring one goal and adding one assist in Friday's win over Siena. The English freshman also set up the game-winning goal on Sunday, garnering his second assist of the weekend and of the season. Darvill is second on the team in scoring with five goals and 12 points, six points behind leading scorer Omar Alfonso, who also scored a goal and added an assist against Siena.
Chelland and Darvill are Loyola's third and fourth MAAC Players of the Week this season. Darvill was named Rookie of the Week on September 11 and Chelland was Defensive Player of the Week back on September 25.
The Greyhounds are now 4-1 in the conference and currently in second place with 12 points. Fairfield is alone in first with a 5-0-0 record and 15 points. Loyola takes on Fairfield in Connecticut this Friday night at 7 p.m.
