Pair of Men's Soccer Greyhounds Earn MAAC Weekly Awards After Perfect 2-0 Roadtrip

Oct. 13, 2008

Baltimore, Md. - Sophomore striker Phil Bannister and junior goalkeeper Milos Kocic were named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Co-Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, after the duo led the Greyhounds to two road victories over the weekend to remain undefeated on the season, the conference office announced Monday.

Bannister tallied five points in the 12th-ranked Greyhounds 5-nil pounding of Canisius on Sunday, scoring two second-half goals and dishing out an assist on the game's first goal, which proved to be the eventual game-winner. Bannister, a native of Newcastle, England, is second only to Jamie Darvill on the team with six goals, and has scored 15 points in nine games played.

Kocic led the way in two Loyola (10-0-1, 2-0-0 MAAC) shutout wins over Niagara and Canisius. He made six saves in Loyola's 1-nil victory over Niagara, and proceeded with 80:31 of scoreless action in the win over the Golden Griffins. With the Greyhounds up big, Kocic was pulled for rest in favor of backup Kyle Wittman for the combined shutout. It marked the first time all season Kocic was not in the pipes for Loyola. Kocic, a native of Leskovac, Serbia, extends his MAAC scoreless streak to 730:05 with the shutouts, a mark that dates back to last season.

Bannister shared his Co-Offensive Player award with Niagara's Eric Brodfuehrer, while Carl Haworth, also of Niagara, won Rookie of the Week.

Kocic received the recognition for the fourth time this season.

Loyola continues play on Friday at home against Marist at 4:30 p.m.
