Baltimore, Md. - An early conference battle for first place in the MAAC will take place this Sunday at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field when the men's soccer team hosts Iona at 1 p.m. The Greyhounds and Gaels each enter the match with 3-0 league records and a chance to take sole possession of first in the conference standings.
Loyola, led by the scoring of freshman Phil Bannister and sophomore Jamie Darvill, are 10-2 on the season and are enjoying a four-game win streak where they have blanked opponents 9-0. Altogether, the Greyhound defense has six shutouts and three in three MAAC games.
Iona, meanwhile, is on a three-game winning streak that has brought their overall record to 6-6. The Gaels, fresh off a 1-nil win at Rider, have already defeated Manhattan and St. Peter's in conference play. Iona is led in scoring by Aly Lo who has eight goals and two assist - five goals of which have come in the last three league games.
The Greyhounds are 5-0 at home with four shutouts. Sunday's game marks the 20th all-time meeting between Loyola and Iona.
