Baltimore, Md. - This Saturday will be the final tune-up for the men's soccer conference season when the Greyhounds host American on Alumnae Field. Loyola, which has played three Top-20 teams in its last four matches, will take on the Eagles at 3:30 p.m.
The Greyhounds, hoping to generate some offense, have five goals this season with senior Vinnie Piscopo leading Loyola in shots (12), shots-on-goal (6), goals (2) and points (4). Senior Brian O'Connor has the team's lone game-winning goal while goal scorers Danny Wheelan and Ray Hassett have two total points and five shots apiece.
Coming off a mid-week loss at No. 18 Pennsylvania, the Greyhounds have a 1-6-1 overall record with all nine MAAC contests still to play. American is 3-4-1 this season and has already begun Patriot League action. The only common opponent on the two sides' schedules is Princeton, whom Loyola defeated 2-1 and American lost to by the same 2-1 final.
The Eagles have won their last three matches with Loyola, including last season at Reeves Field. Loyola's last win over American was a 1-0 overtime win in 2001.
Saturday's contest is also part of Family Weekend at Loyola. The women's team hosts Siena on Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission to both matches is free.
