BALTIMORE, MD - Freshman Omar Alfonso has been named the MAAC Rookie of the Week after his three-goal performance against Rider on Saturday. Alfonso scored three of five Loyola goals to help the Greyhounds open conference play with a 5-1 win.
The freshman leads the team in scoring with seven goals and an assist this season. His seven goals also tie him for the South Atlantic Region lead. Steve Alabi of George Mason, Derek McElligot of UMBC and Amar Johannsson of George Washington also have seven goals this year.
Alfonso earns conference rookie honors for the second time this season. He is one of three Greyhounds to earn MAAC recognition this season. Junior Kevin Nash was named the Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 8 and Michael Kolosvary was named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 15.
The Greyhounds, now 4-2-2 overall, play at Siena (Friday) and Marist (Sunday) this weekend.
