Justin Chelland Named MAAC Defensive Player Of The Week

Sept. 25, 2006

Baltimore, Md. - Senior goalkeeper Justin Chelland has been named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week after posting eight saves in a 2-0 shutout of Richmond last Saturday night. Chelland, who made five of those saves in the second half, also picked up his first shutout of the season in the win.

Chelland's big day in goal, combined with the offensive efforts of Josh Taylor and Omar Alfonso, gave the `Hounds a much-needed win going into conference play this weekend. Chelland's eight saves was the most since his sophomore season against American.

The shutout also marked Chelland's 10th career shutout in goal and Loyola's first of the year. The Greyhounds play at defending national champion Maryland on Tuesday night and begin conference play at Rider on Saturday.
