Men's Soccer Hosts Hofstra In Germantown

Sept. 22, 2005

Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's soccer team hosts Hofstra this Saturday at the Germantown Soccerplex in Germantown, Md. Being only the second meeting between the two soccer programs, the Greyhounds and Pride kick off on Germanton's Championship Stadium turf at 7 p.m.

Both sides enter Saturday's match after a tie in their last game. Loyola, which played a pair of Top-10 opponents in Princeton's Soccer Classic last weekend, is coming off a 1-1 tie with No. 7 Fairleigh-Dickinson while Hofstra played St. Francis (N.Y) to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday.

The Greyhounds are 1-4-1 this season with all four of their losses coming by one goal. Senior Vinnie Piscopo is Loyola's top points man with two goals on the year while senior Brian O'Connor and sophomore Ray Hassett have also tallied goals in the Greyhound effort.

Junior Justin Chelland, who has started all six games, has a save percentage of .759. With 22 saves already this season, Chelland now has 138 career saves, placing him 55 behind Loyola record-holder John Houska.

Hofstra, meanwhile, is 4-2-1 this year with wins over MAAC teams Saint Peter's and Marist. Michael Todd, with two game-winning goals, leads the Pride scoring attack with six goals and five assists.

Saturday's game is Loyola's only scheduled match at Germantown this season. The Greyhounds played a pair of contests at the Soccerplex in 2003, defeating both Syracuse and Cornell by one goal. Loyola's previous meeting with Hofstra came in the 1999 Loyola Fila Classic. The Greyhounds won that game by a score of 4-0.
