Baltimore, Md. - Greg Peters was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week after an excellent weekend in goal at the George Mason Tournament. The senior from Ellicott City, Md. earned his first shutout of the season on Friday against Robert Morris and registered a career-high eight saves against No. 5 Santa Clara on Sunday.
Peters led Loyola to a 3-0 win over Robert Morris with one save while directing a stingy Greyhound defense in front of him. He returned to George Mason Stadium on Sunday and shutout the fifth-ranked Broncos of Santa Clara for 81 minutes, holding a 1-0 Loyola lead.
After making spectacular save after spectacular save, Peters allowed a pair of Santa Clara goals to miss out on his third win of the season. Still, he finished with eight saves, besting his former career-high of five saves. This season, Peters has 16 saves and a 1.75 goals against average while playing all 360 minutes of action.
