EDISON, N.J. - Loyola University Maryland senior goalkeeper Kyle Wittman (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall College) was selected Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced today.
Wittman made five saves in Loyola's double-overtime season opener against Campbell, keeping the Camels out of the net for a 0-0 tie. The shutout marked the 10th of Wittman's Loyola career and the first of the season. The senior recorded compiled nine clean sheets last year, the second-most in the MAAC.
Wittman garners a MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honor for the third time in his career. The goalkeeper earned the award twice last year, first for the week of September 21 after shutting out Towson and again on November 2 for a pair of shutouts against Iona and Fairfield.
