Baltimore, Md. - Freshman Phil Bannister has been named the MAAC Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week after scoring three points in Loyola's opening weekend of play. Bannister, who scored the game-winning goal in the Greyhounds' season opener at Princeton, is tied for the team lead in points after two games.
Bannister, a first-year forward from Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, finished the week with 1 goal and 1 assist with three of his four shots on goal. The Greyhounds won both of their games, defeating both Princeton and Fordham by identical 2-1 scores.
The Loyola freshman is the first MAAC Rookie of the Week this season. Saint Peter's Murphy Wiredu was named the offensive player of the week, while Fairfield's Paul Francini was this week's defensive selection.
