CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland senior Jamie Libby has been named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for his play in the Greyhounds' season-opening 1-1 tie at Saint Joseph's Friday. Junior Connor Thompson was also included among the week's honorable mentions.
Libby, the lone returning starter on the back line, provided a dominating presence in the air, finishing the game with three header attempts. He also cleared a ball off of the back line to keep the Greyhounds within one goal, en route to the 1-1 tie.
This marks the third career weekly award for Libby, while he becomes the first men's soccer player to be honored by the Patriot League. Libby was also named the MAAC Rookie of the Week on September 13, 2010 and the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week on October 11, 2010.
Thompson scored the game-tying goal in the 59th minute, one-timing a cross from senior Stephen Dooley.
The Greyhounds will return to Philadelphia on Wednesday to face La Salle at 7 p.m.
