Edison, N.J. - Juniors Milos Kocic and Jamie Darvill were recognized by the MAAC for their play on the season's opening weekend by being named the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week and the Co-Offensive Player of the Week, respectively, it was announced today by the conference office.
Loyola opened the 2008 campaign with a pair of 2-0 home wins over Fordham and Hartwick to remain unbeaten in the two years of the Black & Decker Soccer Classic. Kocic posted a pair of shutouts and now has 16 blankings in his last 17 contests while Darvill scored three of the four Greyhounds goals, including the only two in the win over the Hawks. Both players were named to the All-Classic Team with Darvill being tabbed as the Most Valuable Player.
Darvill shared the Offensive award with Niagara's Matthew Durand while the Purple Eagles' Carl Haworth was selected as the Rookie of the Week. The recognition was the first for Darvill while Kocic was honored three times last season.
The Greyhounds, who ascended to No. 1 in the NSCAA/adidas North Atlantic Region rankings and 26th in the national rankings, return to play on Sunday when they visit Towson University at 2:30 p.m.
