EDISON, N.J. - Graduate goalkeeper Kyle Wittman has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.
Wittman led the Greyhounds to a 1-0 victory at Adelphi in both teams' season opener on Saturday. The Baltimore, Md., native stopped four shots - all in the second half - to post his first shut out of the season and 16th of his career. Wittman led the MAAC in shutouts a year ago, notching six.
This weekly honor marks the first for Wittman this year, while it is the seventh time in his career he has been tabbed the league's defender of the week.
Loyola will return to action this weekend as it heads to No. 13 William & Mary. Game time is slated for 7 p.m., on Saturday.
