Aug 20, 2013

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland sophomore forward Larry Ndjock has been tabbed the Patriot League’s Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, as voted on by the league’s 10 head coaches and announced Tuesday. Ndjock and senior Stephen Dooley were also included on the 11-member preseason all-league team, while the Greyhounds were selected to finish third in the preseason poll.

American, the 2012 Patriot League regular-season champion, claimed nine of the 20 first-place votes and was picked to win the league with 151 points. Fellow newcomer Boston University was second with 130 points and three first-place votes, while Loyola checked in third with 121 points and four first-place votes. Lafayette, last year’s Patriot League Tournament Champion and NCAA College Cup participant, was fourth with 115 points and three first-place votes, while Colgate (98, one first-place) and Bucknell (87) round out the top-six seeds projected to advance to this year’s expanded six-team Patriot League Championships. Navy (67), Lehigh (51), Holy Cross (44) and Army (36) round out the preseason poll in seventh through 10th, respectively.

Ndjock is coming off a campaign that saw him lead the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) in scoring and rank as the No. 2 freshman in the NCAA in goals (13) and points (29). A College Soccer News Preseason All-America Third Team selection this year, Ndjock was named the MAAC Rookie of the Year, in addition to being selected to the All-MAAC First Team and MAAC All-Rookie Team a year ago, becoming the first Greyhound since Omar Alfonso (2003) to earn all three accolades in the same season.

Dooley is coming off a season in which he missed the first seven games due to injury. He returned to score two goals on his first two shots of the season, leading the Greyhounds to a 4-2 win over James Madison – a squad that previously knocked off No. 1 North Carolina. A second-team All-MAAC selection and NSCAA All-North Atlantic Region Third Team honoree, Dooley finished the season ranked fifth in the league with 1.21 points per game on six goals and five assists.

The Greyhounds will open their season on Friday, Aug. 30 at Saint Joseph’s. Game time with the Hawks is scheduled for 7 p.m.
