Baltimore, Md. - Loyola sophomore co-captain Tennant McVea was named to the 2007 MAAC Preseason Men's Soccer Team in today's preseason release. The Greyhounds, who advanced to their 17th consecutive MAAC Tournament in 2006, were picked to finish second in this year's coaches' poll.
Loyola garnered 81 votes in the preseason poll, while Fairfield was picked to defend its crown with 98 total poll points.
Fairfield University, the defending MAAC Champion, has been chosen to win this year's MAAC men's soccer title in a preseason poll voted on by the league's 10 head coaches.
Saint Peter's Juan Gaviria was been named the 2007 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year. McVea was Loyola's lone representative on the preseason team, while five of the league's 10 teams had no representation whatsoever. Saint Peter's was picked third in the poll, while Niagara was picked fourth
This year's MAAC Championships will deviate from the traditional four-team structure with all 10 teams advancing to Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. for a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
