Kokovic, Ortega Named To Preseason MAAC Soccer Squad

Baltimore, Md. - Seniors Rade Kokovic and Gabriel Ortega have been named to the 2006 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer preseason team, the conference office announced today. The Greyhounds, who finished 6-2-1 in league games last season, were picked second in the preseason coaches' poll.

Both Kokovic and Ortega garnered first-team All-MAAC honors last season as the Greyhounds advanced to their 17th straight conference tournament. Kokovic led the `Hounds with six assists and finished with eight points and a game-winning goal against Niagara. Ortega, who also earned regional All-America honors at defense, has been an All-MAAC performer and starter since his freshman campaign.

Fairfield was picked as the league favorite with 95 votes in the coaches' poll. Loyola accumulated 87 votes while Marist, Saint Peter's and Niagara rounded out the top five.

The Greyhounds begin the 2006 season at the Towson Invitational on August 25 and 27 and open MAAC play at Rider on September 30.
