Men's Soccer Schedule

BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland men’s soccer team will open its 2012 home schedule on Friday, Aug. 31, when the Greyhounds host La Salle at Ridley Athletic Complex, head coach Mark Mettrick announced today.

The game is the first of 10 home games for Loyola during the 2012 season, including six non-conference and four Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matches.

“We are excited to play 10 games in front of our home fans at Ridley Athletic Complex this year,” Mettrick said. “We have a challenging 19 game schedule and look forward to playing against a variety of very competitive teams from seven different conferences, which should help us prepare for MAAC play.

“Along with our North Atlantic regional opponents and local rivals, we have a unique opportunity to play against a quality Big West opponent, Cal State Northridge, which beat UCLA last year. We are also very pleased to resume competition against traditional soccer powers in James Madison and American University.”

Loyola begins its season on the road against North Atlantic regional foe St. Francis (Pa.) on Saturday, Aug. 25, before coming home to Baltimore for three-straight games at Ridley Athletic Complex.

After opening their home slate against the Explorers, the Greyhounds have a Sunday matinee match-up with Cal State Northridge and a game under the lights on Saturday, Sept. 8 against Quinnipiac.

The Greyhounds hit the road for three-straight contests in the middle of September, including two games against local rivals, beginning with Towson on Tuesday, Sept. 11, and ending with UMBC on Wednesday, Sept. 19.

Loyola has a trip down to Buies Creek, N.C., sandwiched between the two local road games, as the Greyhounds take on Campbell on Saturday, Sept. 15.

Another three-game homestand wraps-up non-conference play for the Greyhounds during the last week of September, starting with 2011 Colonial Athletic Association Regular Season Champions and NCAA participant James Madison on Saturday, Sept. 22. Loyola then has a mid-week date with Patriot League finalist American on Tuesday, Sept. 25, before closing out non-conference play on Saturday, Sept. 29, vs. St. Joseph’s.

October marks the beginning of MAAC play with Loyola heading to Buffalo, N.Y., to battle Niagara on Friday, Oct. 5, and Canisius on Sunday, Oct. 7.

The Greyhounds play their conference home opener on Friday, Oct. 12 against Marist and then take on Siena on Sunday, Oct. 14.

Loyola hits the road to face Iona on Friday, Oct. 19, before heading to Connecticut to take on reigning MAAC Champion Fairfield on Sunday, Oct. 21.

Matches with Saint Peter’s on Friday, Oct. 26 and Manhattan on Sunday, Oct. 28 close out Loyola’s home schedule. The team will conclude the 2012 regular season at Rider on Friday, Nov. 2.

The top-four teams in the MAAC qualify for the 2012 MAAC Championship, which will be hosted by Loyola at Ridley Athletic Complex on Thursday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 10.
