Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's soccer team released its 2008 season schedule. The Greyhounds, who enter the season as defending MAAC Champions, will play 10 home games with a challenging non-conference slate that features a number of regional teams and local rivalries.
The season begins the final weekend of the August with the Second Annual Black & Decker Soccer Classic. The Greyhounds will play Fordham in their season opener on Friday, August 29, and host Hartwick in the tournament finale on Sunday, August 31.
Loyola will stay in Baltimore and play a match on Towson's pitch on September 7, before returning home for a September 10 contest with Campbell. The Greyhounds also host William & Mary (Sept. 17), Princeton (Oct. 1) and Quinnipiac (Oct. 4) as part of their non-conference schedule.
Key local road matches include a trip to George Washington (Sept. 13), and back-to-back road matches at Mount St. Mary's and UMBC (Sept. 27).
The Greyhounds begin conference play at Niagara on October 10. Loyola's first home MAAC weekend will be Oct. 17-19 when it welcomes Marist and Siena. The home conference slate wraps up in early November with Saint Peter's and Manhattan.
Loyola, which won the MAAC regular season and tournament championships in 2007, will look for its first back-to-back MAAC titles and NCAA Tournament appearances since the 2001 and 2002 seasons.
