Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's soccer will host a pair of tournaments in 2005, including the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships in November. The schedule, which was released today, will once again feature a strong non-conference slate to prepare for another competitive MAAC season.
For the second year in a row, the Greyhounds open the year with Princeton. This time, they travel to New Jersey for the season-opening match on Friday, September 2. Two days later, Loyola travels to Big East contender Syracuse for a 7 p.m. contest.
The first of two regular season tournaments will take place at Loyola from Friday-Sunday, September 9-11. The Greyhounds host Bucknell, Richmond and Towson and will take on this Bisons and Tigers at Alumnae Field. The very next weekend, Loyola heads back to Princeton to play in the Princeton Soccer Classic. The `Hounds will play Fairleigh-Dickinson on Friday, September 16 and MAC power Akron on Sunday, September 18.
Non-conference games against Hofstra, Pennsylvania and American will provide the final tune-up for league play. The Greyhounds begin MAAC competition against Niagara and Canisius on November 7 and 9 and close out the regular season with Rider at home on November 5.
The 2005 MAAC Championships will be played on Alumnae Field and begin with the semifinals on Friday, November 11. The MAAC title game will take place on Sunday, November 13.
