LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Eddie Dines (Newcastle Upon Tyne, England/Monkseaton) scored his second goal of the season for the Loyola University Maryland men's soccer team and the squad leaned on its defense to shut out Rider on Saturday night for its second Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win, 1-0.
Loyola (6-3-2, 2-0-1 MAAC) earns its fifth win in an six-game unbeaten streak. The Greyhounds outshot Rider (2-10-0, 1-2-0 MAAC) by a count of 10 to eight overall, and Loyola put six shots on goal to Rider's four.
Eddie Dines and Stephen Dooley (Portstewart, Northern Ireland/Loreto College Coleraine) led the Greyhounds with two shots each, both on goal.
Kyle Wittman (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall College) kept up his strong play this season, making four saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season.
The Greyhounds looked for another goal through the first half, testing Rider goalkeeper Matt Perrella with two more shots on goal. The two sides entered the halftime break with Loyola ahead by the same score, however, 1-0.
Loyola's back line allowed only one shot on goal in the second half and Wittman made the save as the Greyhounds held off the Broncs for win.
Loyola stays on the road for its next two games as the team continues MAAC play. The Greyhounds first take on Canisius on Friday, October 22, at 7 p.m., before traveling to Niagara on Sunday, October 24, for a 1 p.m. tilt against the Purple Eagles.
