BALTIMORE -  Phil Bannister (Wallsend, England/Monkseaton) scored three goals and Jamie Libby (Romford, England/Havering College) notched his second career goal for the Loyola University Maryland men's soccer team on Friday night to give the Greyhounds a win in their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener over Manhattan, 4-0.

Loyola improves to 5-3-1 on the year and 1-0-0 in the MAAC. Manhattan drops to 0-7-0 and moves to 0-1-0 in MAAC play.

Kyle Wittman (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall College) made three saves to record his third shutout of the year.

The Greyhounds outshot Manhattan 15 to 11 and recorded eight shots on goal to Manhattan's three.

Phil Bannister's three goals on the night gave him 10 on the season and moved him into eighth on the Loyola all-time goals list with 40, passing Mario Scilipoti's mark of 39. He also increased his career point total to 109, vaulting him into sixth place on the Loyola all-time points ledger past Dennis Grabowski.

Bannister broke a scoreless first half deadlock in the 43 rd minute to put Loyola up 1-0 going into the halftime break. Manhattan goalkeeper Christopher Lands fouled Sam Bradley inside the box to draw a yellow card and give the Greyhounds a penalty kick. Bannister buried the penalty kick high in the net, scoring his eighth goal of the season.

Bannister added his second of the game two minutes into the second half. Diego McQuestion (Baltimore, Md./Gilman School) found Bannister, who played the ball through the right side of the field and launched a shot over the head of Lands and into the goal, pushing Loyola's lead to 2-0.

The McQuestion-Bannister connection struck again nearly four minutes later. McQuestion took a shot from in close that bounced off of a Manhattan defender to a waiting Bannister, whose shot found the right side of the net. The score completed the hat trick and gave Bannister his 10 th goal of the year.

Jamie Libby scored another goal in the 83 rd minute from a Kevin Curran corner kick to put the score 4-0 in favor of Loyola. Libby headed the ball into the right side of the net from Curran's cross into the middle of the box for the second goal of the freshman's career.

The Greyhounds return to the Ridley Athletic Complex on Sunday for another MAAC match against Saint Peter's. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m.
