Corvallis, Ore. - Gonzaga scored two goals in the final 30 minutes of Friday night's opening match of the Oregon State Soccer Tournament to edge out the Greyhounds, 2-1. Loyola, which falls for the first time this season, will play host Oregon State on Saturday night in the tournament finale.
Senior Julian Cantillo scored the Loyola goal, giving the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute of play. Cantillo, who now has one goal and four assist on the season, controlled a pass from freshman Eddie Dines and blasted his shot from 25 yards out into the upper left corner of the net.
The Zags were able to score the equalizer on a deflection in the 60th minute. The game-winner came in the 78th minute when a give-and-go inside the box resulted in a score from five yards out.
Loyola keeper Milos Kocic, who held Gonzaga scoreless for the first 60 minutes, had a solid night in goal with five saves.
The Greyhounds, who play host Oregon State on Saturday night at 10:30 p.m., are now 6-1 on the season while Gonzaga improves to 4-2 overall. Loyola entered the match ranked 26th in the College Soccer News National Poll while Gonzaga came in ranked 30th.
