NORFOLK, Va. - Freshman Brian Saramago netted his first collegiate goal, but the Loyola University Maryland men’s soccer team fell to Old Dominion, 2-1, on a rainy Friday night at the Stokes Soccerplex.

The Greyhounds gave up their first goal in the 25th minute when Cole Stringer sent a long ball to Jesse Miralrio. Miralrio touched it to just inside the box before sneaking a shot between Loyola goalkeeper Matt Sanchez and the goal post.

Loyola finally broke through and evened the match in the 57th minute, when Saramago put away a cross from classmate Josh Fawole to mark the Greyhounds’ first goal of the season.

The stalemate was short lived, though, as the Monarchs netted their game winner in the 70th minute, when Milan Devuyst finished a cross Niko Klosterhalfen.

For the game, Old Dominion (2-0-1) led the way in shots, 14-10, and corners, 7-4.

The Greyhounds (0-2-0) will return to Ridley Athletic Complex on Wednesday when they host George Washington. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
