LORETTO, Pa. - The Loyola University Maryland men’s soccer team gave up a pair of goals Monday afternoon, falling to Saint Francis (Pa.), 2-0, at the Stokes Soccerplex.
The Red Flash snuck in their first goal in the 45th minute when CJ Smolyn sent a cross from Ramirez Dominic over a diving Matt Sanchez to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Saint Francis was again able to capitalize in the 75th minute when Jack Webber scored off the rebound of a pair of shots saved by Sanchez.
Sophomore transfer Gabrial Carlsson had Loyola’s best looks at goal in the first half, but he one-touched a cross from freshman Jonathan Sousa over the cross bar and had another shot blocked in the 23rd and 30th minutes, respectively.
Off a set piece in the 73rd minute, freshman Shane Kastl saw a left-footed shot miss the target, which would have evened the game, before Saramago had a shot skim across the face of the goal in the 80th minute.
In goal, Sanchez finished with four saves.
The Greyhounds will remain on the road for a second-straight contest, as they travel to Old Dominion on Friday for a 7 p.m. match.
