Baltimore, Md. - Loyola lacrosse head coach Charley Toomey and assistant Dan Chemotti have been selected to present at the 2009 adidas National Lacrosse Convention, which will take place from January 16-18 here in Baltimore at The Convention Center.
The convention provides the sport's largest educational opportunity, with over 5,000 coaches, officials, program administrators and vendors in attendance each year. Over 140 presenters, including officials, coaches, and players will speak. For the fifth year in a row the convention will feature a "live field" area, sponsored by Warrior and Brine, to supplement classroom clinics for coaches and officials. Clinics are offered for all levels of coaches and officials, ranging from youth play up through college-aged players.
The Convention also features the largest-ever lacrosse specific Expo Hall with 100 exhibitors registered to date, the US Lacrosse Youth Excellence Awards Breakfast, the Women's Division Kickoff Luncheon presented by Sports Her Way and Brine, Saturday's Fan Fest, the Women's Recruiting Panel Breakfast, a Men's Recruiting Panel and Seminar, the Level 1 and Level II Coaches' Education Clinic, and several other special events.
Toomey enters his fourth season at the helm of the Greyhounds' program, having made two consecutive trips to the NCAA Championships for the first time at Loyola since 2000-2001. His team posted an 8-8 mark last season, winning the league outright with a 6-1 mark in ECAC play. Chemotti is in his third season as the team's offensive coordinator, having seen the team's offensive production greatly improve under his direction.
Among the selected speakers is Baltimore icon Cal Ripken, Jr., who will present the keynote address on Friday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Convention Center. Women's lacrosse coach Jen Adams has also been selected to speak.
The Greyhounds open up their 2009 campaign on Valentine's Day against Notre Dame in Atlanta.
