BALTIMORE - The Loyola men's lacrosse team was part of a record-setting crowd of 729 participants from the Baltimore area and the Loyola community took part in the 8th-Annual Diane Geppi-Aikens 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Walk on a bright and sunny Saturday morning.
The energetic crowd set a record for the highest number of participants in the eight-year history of the event, eclipsing the more than 700 who participated in the run's first year. It is also the fourth-straight year the run has drawn more than 600 participants.
The race was held on the College's campus in honor of the Loyola women's lacrosse coach who passed away in 2003 after a brave battle with brain cancer.
In addition to many local road runners, family and friends of Geppi-Aikens, and Loyola athletics teams, women's lacrosse teams from Loyola, Maryland, UMBC, Johns Hopkins and Towson all ran or walked at the event.
The event supports the Aikens Children's Trust and is held annually on the third Saturday in September.
