BUFFALO - Loyola men's lacrosse alumnus P.T. Ricci '09 was selected by his hometown team in the 2009 National Lacrosse League entry draft on Wednesday night.
Ricci, who was the 2009 ECAC Defensive Player of the Year, was the 45th overall pick of the draft by the Philadelphia Wings.
A native of Wayne, Pa., in suburban Philadelphia, Ricci will compete for a spot as a defender/transition player in the indoor league.
Ricci finished his Loyola career with 232 ground balls, picking up a career-high 91 as a senior in 2009. He also scored two goals and had five assists for the Greyhounds and led the team with 51 caused turnovers.
Following his final season at Loyola, Ricci was drafted by Major League Lacrosse's Washington Bayhawks where he enjoyed an excellent rookie season.
Ricci led all MLL rookies with 31 groundballs during the 2009 season, finishing 12th overall in the league in the category.
Ricci and the Wings kick off the NLL season on January 8, 2010, when they travel to face the Orlando Titans in the first-ever professional lacrosse game in Orlando.
