Former Loyola men's lacrosse standout Shane Koppens has been nominated for an Inside Lacrosse 'Laxie' after scoring with four seconds left to tie the game and force overtime against Johns Hopkins.

Trailing 10-9 after Jimmy Daly scored with 23 seconds left, the Blue Jays won the faceoff and attempted to control possession in their end to run out the clock.

Taylor Ebsary, however, knocked the stick out of a Johns Hopkins' player's grip, causing a turnover. He found P.T. Ricci inside the Blue Jay's end of the field, starting the game-tying sequence.

Ricci ran several steps before launching a 35-yard pass to Koppens, who was more than 10 yards in front of the cage.

Koppens turned to his left and shot, finding the upper left corner of the goal to tie the score at 10-10 with four seconds left.

The game went into overtime where Johns Hopkins scored with just 1:25 left in the second extra frame.

Koppens' goal is one of five nominees in the category. The winner will be announced in the December issue of the magazine.
