Baltimore, Md. - Seniors Shane Koppens and Paul Richards have been selected to the 2008 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) North-South College All-Star game. Both Koppens and Richards will play for the South Team on Friday, May 23 in Boston, Mass.
Koppens led the Greyhound offense this season with 19 goals, 24 assists and 43 total points. The senior attackman from Clifton Park, N.Y. helped the Greyhounds to a second straight NCAA Tournament and was named the ECAC Offensive Player of the Year. His 60 assists rank him eighth on Loyola's career assist list.
Richards, meanwhile, had another outstanding season in the midfield. A first-team All-ECAC selection, he registered nine goals, seven assists and 54 groundballs for the Greyhounds, closing his college career with 29 goals, 27 assists and 159 groundballs.
The first North-South College All-Star Game was first played in 1940 at Municipal Stadium in Baltimore. The North squad coached by Princeton's Bill Logan won that inaugural event with a 6-5 victory over the South team coached by Maryland's Jack Faber.
This year, the 67th Annual USILA North/South Senior All-Star Game will take place at Harvard Stadium on Friday May 23rd as part of a lacrosse triple-header. The Division III game will be played at 2:00 p.m. and the Division I/II game will be played at 4:00 PM followed by the Boston Cannons game vs. the Rochester Rattlers at 7:00 p.m.
